In addition, several people contacted us and asked for Jewel's address, so that they could send their donation directly to the family. We estimate the total contributions at about $1,000. Thank you to everyone who contributed! The parole board voted 7-0 not to stop the execution. Governor Perry refused to issue a 30-day stay. An appeal filed with the U.S. Supreme Court was rejected.. Call the Governor's Main Switchboard at (512) 463-2000 and criticize him for allowing the execution of a woman whose trial attorney was grossly incompetent.
Thank you to the Committee to Free Frances Newton for all they did to try to save Frances. To contact the committee, email

Family and friends of Frances gathered
Tuesday, Sept 20, in Houston for her funeral. Please
take a moment out of your day to think of them.
We received a note from Gloria Rubac of
the Committee to
Free Frances Newton saying that
Frances' family is having trouble paying for the
funeral, the plot, and the burial. As anyone who has
had to arrange a funeral for one
of their loved ones knows, funerals are quite
expensive.
Gloria said that Jewel Nelms, Frances' mother, was
very hesitant to even ask for contributions as she is
such an independent and proud woman, but she said
if
someone really insisted on doing something, that a
contribution would be more helpful than flowers.
